The Cost of Creativity
It costs our non-profit just over $1,000 per student to host our annual Writers at Harriman summer camp, covering lodging, meals, instruction, supplies, and publication of the student anthology.
Thanks to the generosity of foundations, sponsors, and individual donors, we're able to offer students a significantly reduced registration fee:
* Idaho students.................$495
* Out of state students.....$595
* Returning students........$395
And because of our donors' continued support, we're proud to offer a limited number of full-tuition, and partial, scholarships for students with financial need-ensuring that every young writer has the chance to attend, regardless of circumstance..
If you don't hear back from us within 10 days, please feel free to follow up at [email protected].

Your gift helps young writers discover their voices.
At Writers at Harriman, every donation provides scholarships, creative opportunities, and mentorship that last a lifetime.
Every summer, young writers gather at beautiful Harriman State Park for a week of creativity, growth, and inspiration. Under the guidance of professional authors and mentors, students discover the power of words, the joy of storytelling, and the confidence to share their voices with the world.
At Writers at Harriman, we believe every student who dreams of writing deserves the chance to attend — regardless of financial circumstance. Thanks to generous donors like you, we provide scholarships, bring in talented instructors, and publish each student’s work in our annual anthology.
Your donation helps us:
• Award scholarships to deserving students
• Bring professional authors and educators to camp
• Cover lodging, meals, and program supplies
• Publish the annual student anthology
• Expand opportunities for young writers across Idaho and beyond

When you give, you’re not just supporting a camp --you’re investing in imagination, confidence, and the storytellers of tomorrow.

ABOUT US:

Discover Your Voice at Writers at Harriman
since 2009, every year at Writers at Harriman, students explore the art of storytelling through poetry, essays, plays, screenplays, video production, and short fiction. You don’t need to be an experienced writer to attend — all you need is curiosity, imagination, and a love of words. Our camp welcomes young writers of every skill level.
You’ll work in small groups and one-on-one with professional authors — novelists, poets, screenwriters, and educators — who guide you through a supportive, inspiring curriculum tailored to your interests. We meet you where you are and help you grow, encouraging you to experiment with new forms and celebrate your strengths.
Our teaching writers emphasize reading, writing, and critical thinking — and then even more writing! They share first-hand insights into overcoming blank-page anxiety, conducting effective research, using digital tools responsibly, and avoiding common pitfalls.
A cornerstone of the Harriman experience is constructive feedback — learning how to receive it, offer it, and apply it to strengthen your work. Whether you’re developing characters, deepening plot, or refining your voice, you’ll have the guidance and time you need to revise and grow.
Each day offers generous, uninterrupted time to write, reflect, and rewrite amid the beauty of Harriman State Park — free from bells, grades, and everyday distractions. Here, your writing is a work in progress, open to discovery and possibility.
By week’s end, every student will have completed at least one polished piece for publication in our annual Henrys Fork Journal.
